Privacy at Matrix
Matrix is built on a local-first architecture. Most of your data never leaves your dedicated environment. Here's a plain-language overview of what we collect, what we don't, and why.

Your Data Stays With You
Every Matrix user gets a dedicated virtual machine — a private environment that runs the agent, memory system, and tools exclusively for you. Your conversations, files, code, and agent memory (Cortex) live inside this isolated environment. We designed Matrix so that the default state is privacy: your data doesn't flow to shared servers unless it needs to for a specific operation.
The Matrix UI is a thin communication window. It handles bidirectional messaging — your inputs go up, agent streams come down — with no client-side business logic or state storage. The heavy lifting happens in your private VM, not in your browser or on shared infrastructure.
What We Collect
We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the Service:
- Account information: Email address and authentication credentials when you create an account.
- Usage telemetry: Anonymized, aggregated metrics about feature usage and system performance (e.g., "agent tool X was invoked N times today"). This data cannot be traced back to individual users or their content.
- Billing data: Payment information processed by our payment provider. We do not store full credit card numbers on our servers.
- Communication metadata: Timestamps and message sizes for routing purposes. We do not read or analyze the content of your messages for advertising or profiling.
What We Don't Collect
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties.
- We do not use your conversations or agent outputs to train AI models for other users.
- We do not track your browsing behavior across other websites.
- We do not collect biometric data, location data (beyond IP-based region for infrastructure routing), or device fingerprints for advertising.
- We do not access the contents of your Cortex (agent memory) except as required for system maintenance, and only with appropriate access controls.
How We Use Your Data
The data we collect is used exclusively for:
- Providing the Service: Operating your agent environment, routing messages, and maintaining your session.
- Security: Detecting and preventing abuse, unauthorized access, and system failures.
- Improvement: Analyzing aggregated, anonymized usage patterns to improve platform reliability and performance.
- Communication: Sending you service-related notifications, security alerts, and (with your consent) product updates.
- Legal compliance: Meeting applicable legal obligations and responding to lawful requests.
Third-Party Interactions
When your agent interacts with external services on your behalf — such as web search APIs, the Paxeer blockchain, or third-party websites — those interactions are governed by the respective service's privacy policies. The agent acts as your proxy, and data shared with external services is limited to what is necessary for the specific task you requested.
Blockchain transactions on the Paxeer network are publicly visible by nature. Wallet addresses, transaction hashes, and on-chain data are part of the public ledger and are not controlled by PaxLabs' privacy practices.
Data Retention and Deletion
Your data within the Matrix environment is retained for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:
- Your dedicated VM and all its contents (conversations, files, Cortex memory) are destroyed within 30 days.
- Aggregated, anonymized usage metrics may be retained for service improvement.
- Billing records are retained as required by applicable tax and financial regulations.
- Blockchain transactions you authorized remain on the Paxeer public ledger and cannot be deleted.
You can request a full export of your data at any time through the platform settings.
